The American Association of Orthodontists recommends kids have their initial orthodontic exam at the age of seven. In most cases, Dr. Noorda and Dr. Okuda will recommend putting off treatment until your child has all of their adult teeth. Your little one will simply visit us every so often for complimentary checkups. This allows us to keep an eye on their smile and let you know when the time is right to begin treatment. However, there are some cases where early interceptive treatment will be indicated. With early treatment, we can take the least invasive approach to correct skeletal issues that, left unchecked, could require extensive treatment or even surgery down the road. What is Two-Phase Orthodontic Treatment?
If we identify certain red flags at your child’s exam, two-phase early orthodontic treatment could be indicated. In Phase One, we guide jaw and facial growth with an orthodontic appliance while a child is still growing. In Phase Two, braces or Invisalign® Teen are used to move the permanent teeth into their ideal places.
When kids do receive this interceptive orthodontic treatment, the benefits include:
